# Velvet: Dark Mode for Safari

Velvet gives every website in Safari a calm dark mode on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and keeps each page easy to read and easy to use\.

Pay once\. No subscription, no ads, no account\.

- [Download Velvet on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6828591570?ct=home_markdown-content)

## Dark mode that keeps photos real

Many dark mode extensions simply invert a page, so photos turn into negatives, or force dark colors that can leave text fields and checkboxes hard to see\. Velvet recolors each page with care instead\.

- Text stays sharp: Headlines, links and long articles stay crisp and readable\.
- Controls stay visible: Form fields, checkboxes, buttons and icons keep their shape and contrast\.
- Photos keep their colors: Pictures and videos are left as they are, never inverted\.

## Dark at night, or all day

- Match Device: Websites go dark whenever your iPhone, iPad or Mac is in Dark Mode\.
- Always Dark: Every website stays dark, day and night\.
- Respects dark sites: Sites that already have a dark mode keep their own design, or use your Velvet theme everywhere with one switch\.

## Choose your kind of dark

Made for reading at night\.

- Gray: Soft and easy on the eyes\.
- Black: True black, great for OLED screens\.
- Warm: Warmer tones for late\-night reading\.

## Set each site just once

- Right from Safari: Turn a site Always Dark, Match Device or Off from the Safari toolbar\. Velvet remembers it, and your saved sites are listed in the app\.
- Best or Smooth: Choose Best for fine detail or Smooth for heavy sites\.
- Pause anytime: Pause dark mode for an hour or until tomorrow morning\.
- Report a site: Tell us about a site that looks wrong in a few taps, and see exactly what is sent first\.

## Your browsing stays yours

Pages are recolored on your device\. Velvet never collects your browsing history, page content or anything you type\. No account, no ads\.

Safari asks you to allow Velvet to read and change the pages you visit: it needs that access to recolor them, and the recoloring happens on your device\. A site report sends only the page address and the issue you pick, and only when you choose to send it\.

## One purchase\. Every device\.

One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac\. No subscription and no in\-app purchases\. Use it on every site from day one: no site cap, no trial countdown and no pop\-ups inside your web pages\.

## Questions, answered

### How do I turn Velvet on?

Setup takes about a minute\. Open the Velvet app: it shows the two Safari settings to turn on and checks that Velvet is working\.

### Why does Safari say Velvet can read and change websites?

Velvet needs that access to recolor the pages you visit\. The recoloring happens on your device, and page content is never sent to us or anyone else\. You can limit or remove access at any time in Safari settings\.

### Is Velvet a subscription?

No\. Velvet is a single purchase with no in\-app purchases\. It covers iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple Account, so you will not be charged again on another device\.

### What if a website looks wrong?

Open the Velvet menu in Safari on that site and set it to Off for now, or choose Smooth quality for that site in the Velvet app\. Then tap More › Report a Problem in the menu to tell us, and we will fix it in an update\.

### Which devices does Velvet work on?

Velvet works in Safari on iPhone and iPad with iOS and iPadOS 26\.2 or later, and on Mac with macOS 26\.2 or later\.
